Summary

The Conversation History tab lets you browse past visitor chats for a chatbot, search by date or message text, and compare the original transcript with the anonymized version sent to the AI when privacy settings are enabled.

Prerequisites

  • Edit chatbot → Conversation History tab
  • At least one completed visitor conversation (widget or test chat)

Step-by-step: View a conversation

  1. Open Edit Chatbot from Dashboard or WP Admin → HolderChat → Dashboard tab
  2. Select Conversation History in the left sidebar
  3. Wait for the Conversations list to load
  4. Click a conversation in the left panel
  5. Read messages in the detail panel on the right

Original vs anonymized view

When Anonymize customer data is enabled in Privacy Settings, each conversation may have two views:

OriginalMessages as stored on HolderChat (visitor text as typed)
AnonymizedText sent to OpenAI after anonymization

Use Original for support review. Use Anonymized to verify privacy settings work as expected.

The toggle appears in the detail header after you select a conversation.

Pagination

The conversation list paginates when you have many talks. Use the previous/next controls at the bottom of the list panel.

What triggers a rebuild

Viewing conversation history does not trigger rebuild.

Limitations

  • History is stored on HolderChat servers, not in WordPress
  • Very old conversations may depend on retention policy (contact support for export)
  • Empty list until visitors (or you via Test Chatbot) have chatted
  • WordPress Connector users access the same tab via the embedded Dashboard iframe

Troubleshooting

Symptom: No conversations found

Cause: No widget traffic yet, or search filter too narrow.

Fix: Send a test message via Test Chatbot; clear search; click Refresh.

Symptom: Anonymized view missing

Cause: Anonymization was off for that chat, or no PII was detected.

Fix: Enable Anonymize customer data in Privacy Settings for new chats.

Symptom: List does not load

Cause: API error or bot not Active.

Fix: Refresh page; check bot status; try again when Active.
