Summary
Linking connects a WordPress-provisioned chatbot to your HolderChat.com login so the bot appears on your web dashboard and you can manage settings from both WP Admin and holderchat.com.
Prerequisites
- WordPress site already connected via Create Chatbot
- HolderChat account (register at holderchat.com if needed)
Why link?
| Without link | With link |
|---|---|
| Bot exists only on WP site | Bot visible on holderchat.com Dashboard |
| Widget works | Widget works |
| Manage via WP Dashboard tab only | Manage via WP or holderchat.com |
| No account ownership | Your account owns the bot |
Step-by-step: Link from WordPress
- WP Admin → HolderChat → Settings
- Under HolderChat account, click Link to HolderChat account
- Browser opens holderchat.com Link WordPress page (
/link-wordpress/) - Log in or register if asked
- Review site domain and bot details
- Confirm link
- Return to WordPress — status shows Linked to your HolderChat account
This is the only supported linking flow in the Connector plugin. It uses a short-lived browser token — you do not enter a code manually in WordPress.
Link token expiry
Browser link tokens expire after 15 minutes. If expired, start Link to HolderChat account again from WordPress.
Unlink
- WP Admin → HolderChat → Settings
- Click Unlink account
- Confirm — *Unlink this chatbot from your HolderChat account? You can link it again later.*
Effect: Removes account association. The bot and widget keep working on WordPress. The bot may disappear from your holderchat.com dashboard until linked again.
Link states you may see
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Already linked | Site tied to an account |
| Already yours | You own this site |
| Expired | More than 15 minutes — restart link from WordPress |
| Invalid | Wrong or used token |
What triggers a rebuild
Linking and unlinking do not trigger rebuild.
Limitations
- One HolderChat account link per connected site
- Another user cannot claim a site already linked to someone else
- Unlink does not delete bot knowledge or conversation history on HolderChat
